EDU472 Principles and Practices of Mental Health Counseling
Provides an introduction to the counseling profession with an emphasis on the counselor’s role in community agencies and facilities. Examines the responsibilities of the mental health counselor from a historical, theoretical, ethical, and practical point of view. Explores the helping relationship, the roles of the mental health counselor, and the professional practice issues related to providing mental health counseling services, historically and today. Focuses on the fundamental elements of basic listening and communication skills that serve as the building blocks for more advanced counseling skills.
