EDE498 Integrating Computer Science Standards across the Curriculum
This course is designed to support the implementation of the 2020 NYS Computer Science and Digital Fluency Standards within content area courses – with a focus on the Impact of Computing and Computational Thinking standards. As such, the course aims to serve not only individuals seeking teaching certification in Computer Science, but also any other K-12 teachers seeking guidance for the implementation of the new standards in their classrooms. “Experiences as learners” as well as field-based assignments are an integral part of the course – so access to a K-12 instructional context is critical to complete all the course assignments. A key product at the end of the course will be the design, implementation and evaluation of an innovative unit that reflects the principles and practices of high-quality computer science instruction developed throughout the course. Students will also develop strategies to continue to learn new computer science content on their own as needed to teach specific topics.
